This is authentic Ojiya-chijimi.
Born from the over thousand-year history and tradition of hemp weaving in Echigo, a land of snow, Ojiya-chijimi was created around 1670, in the early Edo period, by applying a strong twist to thin weft threads, resulting in fine wrinkles on the fabric surface.
Even today, the wrinkles are created by hand-boiling each bolt of fabric, just as it was done at the time.
The refreshing feel and unique texture of crinkled fabric, which only natural hemp fibers possess, are soft, light, and highly breathable, making it the ultimate comfortable garment for summer.
