Written on it is 天 (Ten - Heaven/Sky) for use with a Shinto altar or Buddhist altar.

When there is a room or hallway above a Shinto altar, it is considered disrespectful to the gods because people would be walking above them.

Therefore, by affixing the characters 天 (Ten), 空 (Sora - Sky), or 雲 (Kumo - Cloud) to the ceiling above the Shinto altar, you can indicate that the space is indeed that, and avoid being disrespectful. This is a traditional and polite practice that we hope you will utilize.

The size is approximately 14.1 cm in height and 13.0 cm in width.
