- What is Mekabu? -
Mekabu is the root part of wakame seaweed, which is low in calories. It is where the reproductive cells of wakame gather, and nutrients are concentrated.
Mekabu is rich in alginic acid, a slimy component that is also a water-soluble dietary fiber.
Alginic acid contains potassium and calcium.
Since it is in flake form, not noodle form, you can eat it as a snack as is, or use it in various ways such as topping vinegared dishes, cold tofu, natto, or tuna, mixing it into dishes like omelets, or adding it to soups.
Seaweed naturally contains umami and salt, so you can achieve a delicious flavor with less seasoning.
You can cook it directly from the bag, which also serves as a rehydrating step. However, if you rehydrate it separately, we recommend not rubbing it vigorously when draining the water (or hot water). This product is washed and ready to eat, so please enjoy the slimy components as well.
