Happy Hill is a variety developed by natural farming pioneer Masanobu Fukuoka. He crossbred Burmese rice with Japanese heavy-headed rice and repeatedly selected it under the strict conditions of natural farming for many years until it stabilized.

Mr. Fukuoka's goal was to create tough rice that grows solely by the power of nature.
Happy Hill's characteristics include its resistance to diseases even without fertilizer or pesticides, its ability to grow as dry-land rice in fields, and its high yield with many ears per plant.

We first cultivated this variety using seeds purchased from Noguchi Seed Research in 2022 and have continued to grow it until last year. No pesticides have been used at all.

[Important Notes]
The paddy rice being offered this time was not specifically cultivated for seed use.
It was grown in a paddy field in 2023.
It has not been sorted or disinfected. We recommend that it be sorted by water flotation before planting.
Drying was done mechanically.
While we have not tested the germination rate, we have confirmed germination (see photos).

We estimate that 10-20% of the paddy rice sent will float during water sorting. We will include a little extra, but please refrain from purchasing if you require stable quality.
Happy Hill is a late-maturing variety. It is not suitable for cold regions such as Tohoku and Hokkaido.

Since 2023, we have been cultivating rice under the same conditions as this offering, performing water sorting (see photos), and growing the rice that sinks. This has resulted in delicious rice.

We grow this rice in paddy fields, but last year, a neighbor successfully cultivated it in a field. They mentioned that they grew seedlings and then transplanted them.

We hope this reaches those who need it and that the circle of Mr. Fukuoka's Happy Hill continues to expand.

We will also include 200g of 2023 Harvest Asamurasaki (black glutinous rice) paddy, grown by us. While it is said to be cultivable in fields, we have no experience growing it in a field. Since it is pesticide-free, you can also enjoy it as pop rice. Please let us know if you do not require this.
