Chestnut runner beans are a native variety from Hokkaido, characterized by their striped pattern similar to shell beans and their shape resembling a light cocoa-colored nut.

They can be eaten as young pods like regular green beans, or allowed to mature and used in dishes like boiled beans or potage. They are known for their soft skin and creamy flavor.

They are also delicious when dried and cooked with rice, or used in stews, as well as made into pastes or spreads for canapés. (^^)

As they are climbing plants, it's recommended to first grow them in pots until they develop true leaves, and then transplant them to the field with supports. (^^)
