★ Thai Winter Melon Seeds - 15 seeds
Harvest Year: 2025

Sowing period: March to May, Harvest period: June to October

Although it has winter in its name, it originates from hot regions from India to southern China. It is called winter melon because it can be stored for a long time and can be eaten in winter. It is thought to have little nutritional value because it is 95% water, but it quenches thirst, reduces swelling, and has a cooling effect, making it highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine.
It is rich in vitamin C and potassium, so in Japan, it is often consumed as a vegetable to combat summer fatigue. Winter melon is easy to eat and can be consumed in large quantities at once, so its nutritional benefits can be expected. It also has diuretic and detoxification effects and is low in calories, making it useful for preventing and improving diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, and obesity.

In Thailand, it is used in various types of soups. Because it has a mild flavor and doesn't overpower other ingredients, you might eat it without realizing it's winter melon (like the soup served with Khao Man Gai). It is also used in simmered dishes, stir-fries, and even desserts. Raw winter melon can have a grassy taste, but when boiled, it can be used in salads. It has a subtle, refreshing flavor and is often used in thickened sauces. You can try it with various stocks, whether Japanese, Western, or Chinese.
