Japanese Honeybee Attractant Liquid 500ml (250ml x 2) y2502-0005
This is the liquid remaining after boiling down the comb waste from Japanese honeybees after honey extraction to obtain beeswax.
For use as an attractant during swarming season.
Available in a convenient 2-bottle pack of 250ml each.
We aim to ship orders within 2 business days of your application, but please understand that delays may occur due to circumstances. We will notify you of the estimated shipping date and immediately after shipping.
Although it is called an attractant, its purpose is to impart a scent to the hive. Honeybees tend to prefer hives they have nested in before, so for new bait hives, this is used to give them a scent of prior use.
Honeybees have a keen sense of smell, so it's okay to dilute it with water.
I use it diluted about 2 to 4 times.
〈Example Usage〉
?Spray onto the bait hive.
?Apply with a brush.
?Apply with a rag or cloth.
?Boil the hive boxes or frames in hot water mixed with the attractant in a large pot or 18-liter can, or
?Pour the liquid with a ladle, or apply with a wooden stick wrapped in cloth.
I used to do it in an 18-liter can at first,
but lately I've been taking it easy and prefer using a spray. I believe it's still effective.
In any case, it is often said that mold will grow if not dried thoroughly after treatment. I have never had mold grow with this method.
The bait hive preparation season is also a dry season, and I believe it will dry quickly just by placing it outside after treatment without conscious effort.
This is a natural product. Also, as it is collected by hand, there may be some residual wax or impurities mixed in, but please do not mind.
If using a spray, it would be less likely to clog if filtered through a cloth or similar material.
Ships at room temperature. If you plan to store it and not use it all this season, freezing is recommended.
At room temperature, it can ferment, and if the cap is tightly closed, the container can become pressurized. I have used it even after fermentation and it is still effective, but since mold may form on the surface of the liquid in the container, freezing is best if you do not plan to use it immediately. However, please understand that even with this attractant, beeswax coating, and bait hive lures, the success rate of attracting a swarming colony is not 100%. Even with thorough preparation, the entry rate is said to be 10-20% for beginners and up to 30% for experienced beekeepers. Nevertheless, as experienced beekeepers know, the joy of a successful swarm capture is exceptional. It is a deeply moving experience that is hard to replicate. I sincerely wish for the success of all who purchase this product.
