I bought this for composing music, but I haven't used it much. I probably turn it on about once a month? I don't think I've ever taken it out of the house, but I may have moved it around the room.

The display image might appear a bit dim, but it might have been like this from the start. (It is illuminated.)

This synthesizer mixes an FM sound source, which evolved from the DX7, with a PCM sound source. FM synthesis creates sound by multiplying sine waves, but a key feature of the SY99 is its ability to apply modulation to PCM waveforms as well. For example, you can add a saxophone waveform to the FM chain and apply modulation. It is said that you can indeed hear a convincing effect when listening.
