Kurume Okiage - Seven Lucky Gods - Lucky Charm

Kurume City Okiage refers to pressed appliqué crafts made from colorful fabrics. It is said to have originated in the Edo period when samurai women made Hina dolls for the Peach Festival. A sketch is drawn and transferred to cardboard, cotton is placed on top, wrapped in fabric such as silk, and then adhered. Due to the meticulous handwork involved in layering, it has a three-dimensional feel. (From YouTube)

This large Kurume Okiage depicting the Seven Lucky Gods for great business prosperity is no longer available.
This piece was made by a relative who trained under a teacher named Inoue (not Inoue Den) who lived in the wholesale district in front of Kurume City Hall. The faces were painted by Teacher Inoue.

① Approximately 40 years have passed since its creation. Therefore, the lower part of the okiage, Sea Bream, Boat, and Waves, has some stains and fading.
② There appear to be no moth-eaten holes.
③ However, please understand that due to the passage of time, there are some stains and fading. Returns will not be accepted.
④ There is no smell of moth repellents such as naphthalene.
